Arsenal open talks to sign Frankfurt star Hugo Ekitike
Arsenal have reportedly ‘begun talks’ to sign Eintracht Frankfurt star Hugo Ekitike, as per transfer journalist Graeme Bailey.
The Frenchman has been attracting a lot of attention ahead of the summer window having displayed promising performances in the Bundesliga this season.
In 38 appearances in all competitions, the 22-year-old has scored 19 goals and registered eight assists thus far this season. He has been guiding his side to mount a top-four charge and has also helped them reach the quarterfinal of the Europa League.
Now, on TBR Football, Bailey says that Newcastle United ace Alexander Isak is the primary target for Arsenal to bolster the frontline but they have earmarked Ekitike as an alternative option if they fail to hire the Swedish international.
The Gunners have already held preliminary talks over this deal and have asked to be kept informed about the forward. Frankfurt are a selling club and they won’t stop the Frenchman from leaving if they receive a lucrative proposal.
Ekitike to Arsenal
The Eagles want around £70m but could eventually let him leave for a fee of around £50m as they only paid £15m to hire him from Paris Saint-Germain.
Arsenal recently sent scouts to watch him in action for France U21 against England U21 where he guided his country to a 5-3 victory by scoring a hat-trick.
The journalist says Arsenal will have to beat fierce competition to seal the deal as Liverpool, Newcastle United and Aston Villa are also keen on securing his service. Ekitike is open to moving to the Premier League and is prepared to join Mikel Arteta’s side.
Arsenal are said to be prioritising signing a new striker this summer to help Arteta win the Premier League title finally.
Ekitike has showcased his qualities in the Bundesliga and the North Londoners will be hoping that he will be able to replicate the same performance in the Premier League if he were to join this summer.
However, the forward is still very young and might take time to settle down in the English top flight. Therefore, Arsenal might be better off going for a more experienced striker to strengthen the attacking department.
