Bid expected: Arsenal to try and push through late deal to sign 22-year-old star

According to Sky Sports News via the Express, Arsenal are expected to try and push through a deal to sign Celtic full-back Kieran Tierney before the transfer window closes on Thursday evening.

Unai Emery has been chasing Tierney throughout the summer after identifying the Scottish international as an upgrade our options at left-back amid on-going doubts over Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac.

However, it’s been a frustrating pursuit as we’ve struggled to agree terms with Celtic after the SPL champions knocked back our second offer despite it meeting their reported £25m valuation.

The Express says Celtic weren’t happy with the amount of add-ons we included in the proposal as they want the majority of the £25m fee paid up front so Arsenal are going to have to come back with a new offer.

The newspaper are citing Sky Sports News as saying in their televised transfer update that Arsenal are expected to make one final push to sign Tierney with a fresh offer due to be submitted over the coming days.

Celtic boss Neil Lennon also admitted over the weekend that he’s expecting Arsenal to table another bid for the full-back but he insists their asking price needs to met if a deal is to be agreed.

Lennon is quoted by the Express as saying:

“Normally these things tend to happen again. I imagine there will be offers coming in. For certain individual players, the asking price hasn’t been met and the clubs know what the asking price is.

“So until that valuation is met then thankfully we don’t have a decision to make. If we’re talking about Arsenal, they have five or six days to come back in with a revised offer.

“The closer it comes to the end of the window and then something crops up, we are prepared for that aspect of it, but it’s not welcome.”

I think it’s clear that Arsenal will make a late attempt to finally land Tierney and the 22-year-old would be an excellent addition to the squad if we could bring him to north London this summer.

He’s been one of the best left-backs in British football in recent years and he’s solid defensively while also being a threat going forward so he’d be the ideal man to replace Monreal and Kolasinac.

However, one concern is his fitness as Tierney has been hampered by a stomach injury for some time while he was also forced to undergo a double hernia operation. Reports suggest he could be ruled out for another 8 weeks as he’s still feeling pain whenever he kicks a ball so it would be a big risk to spend £25m on a player that isn’t going to be 100% fit for quite some time.
