Arsenal at the final stage to complete Bruno Guimaraes signing

Arsenal are at the ‘final stage’ of formalising the transfer of Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle United, as per Nicolo Schira. 

Guimarães has emerged as Arsenal’s priority midfield target this summer, which comes as little surprise given the remarkable consistency he’s shown since making the move to St James’ Park from Lyon back in 2022.

Across the past four seasons, the Brazilian has amassed 195 appearances for the Magpies while directly contributing to 63 goals, 17 of which came last season across all competitions.

On the international front, he’s been a presence in the Brazil setup since his debut back in November 2020, going on to add a further 47 caps since. He also featured in four matches at the World Cup and provided four assists, with only Pele recording more for Brazil in an edition of the tournament from 1966 onwards (six in 1970).

Given that level of consistent output, it’s hardly surprising Arsenal have identified him as such a key target this summer.

Now, in recent days, reports via Arsenal Station revealed that Arsenal are in advanced talks to sign Guimarães from Newcastle.

An agreement now appears to be imminent, as Nicolo Schira claims that Arsenal are at the final stage of completing the 28-year-old’s transfer to the Emirates Stadium for a £77m fee.

‘Unbelievable’ midfielder

The Premier League champions have offered Guimarães a contract until 2031 and are now confident of signing the Brazilian with only the final details left to thrash out, Schira adds.

There is plenty in both Bruno Guimarães’ statistical profile and overall style of play to indicate he would be an excellent fit for Mikel Arteta’s system at Arsenal.

Durability has been a hallmark of his game since his first full season in the Premier League, having featured in over 85% of available league minutes since then, highlighting not only his outstanding durability but also a fitness record that has allowed him to perform at a consistently high level over several seasons.

Former Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, who witnessed Guimarães’ qualities first-hand in both training and matches, has repeatedly praised the midfielder. He once described him as ‘world-class’ and, in one of his final comments before departing the club, labelled him ‘unbelievable’.

Interestingly, Howe’s claims are well backed up statistically, particularly in the recently concluded Premier League campaign, where the Brazil international ranked among the top five for line-breaking passes (46) and through balls (21).

His potential addition will hand Arteta sufficient midfield depth to compete consistently for major honours in the 2025-27 season.
