AS Roma midfielder Manu Kone urged to join Arsenal
Manchester United legend Patrice Evra has urged AS Roma midfielder Manu Kone to join Arsenal this summer.
Since moving to Stadio Olimpico from German Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach, the 25-year-old has established himself as a key starter.
In 29 Serie A appearances, the Frenchman made five goal contributions last campaign. Moreover, he helped his side qualify for next season’s Champions League by finishing third in the league.
Having proven his worth in the Italian top-flight, Kone secured his place in France’s World Cup squad, helping his country reach the semi-final before losing to eventual champions Spain.
Now, during a recent interview (via Metro), Evra says that Kone is an energetic player and can carry the ball. Moreover, he likes duels and works hard without possession.
Therefore, he would be a perfect fit for the Premier League. Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta knows how to use a player like him; therefore, the Gunners would be the right destination for Kone.
Evra said:
“I like Manu Kone’s profile for the Premier League. He has energy, he carries the ball, he likes duels and he works for the team. If he goes to Arsenal with a manager who knows how to use him, I think he can do well. He definitely has the tools. Then it is about consistency.”
Kone to Arsenal
The 25-year-old was linked with a move to Arsenal, but Arteta’s side never made a move to sign him. Instead, they have been working hard to purchase Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United.
On the other hand, Manchester United are reportedly interested in Kone, valued at around £43m by Transfermarkt, and have already held talks over a potential swoop.
He is a defensive midfielder by trait but is also comfortable in the box-to-box role. Kone is quick, strong, technically sound, and has an eye for long-range passing.
He is currently at the prime stage of his career. So, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him. However, Kone has had numerous fitness problems over the years.
Therefore, the North London club would be better off continuing their pursuit of Guimaraes rather than moving for Kone. Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal eventually heed Evra’s advice and make a move for Kone this summer.
