[Video Highlights] Bayern Munich 1-2 Arsenal: Nketiah nets late winner for Gunners

By on July 18, 2019

Eddie Nketiah scored late on to give Arsenal a morale-boosting 2-1 victory over Bayern Munich in the International Champions Cup in Los Angeles during the early hours of the morning.

Unai Emery fielded a strong starting eleven with the likes of Bern Leno, Sokratis, Granit Xhaka, Mesut Ozil, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette all featuring while Joe Willock started in the middle of the park.

Cleat cut chances were at a premium in the first half. Aubameyang used his pace to tee-up Ozil but the German was denied by Manuel Neuer while Leno did well to keep out a close-range effort from Thomas Muller as the two sides were goalless at the break.

Arsenal finally broke the deadlock shortly after half-time when Louis Poznanski put through his own net from an Aubameyang cross after the Gabon international was found by a lovely ball from Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Former Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry then set-up Robert Lewandowski with a fine cross and the Polish hitman headed home to make it 1-1 in the 71st minute.

It looked like the game was heading for a draw but there was late drama as Nketiah grabbed a winner for Arsenal. The 20-year-old poked home from close range to make it 2-1 following a great one-two involving Tyreece John-Jules and Calum Chambers.

It was a great win for Arsenal and will no doubt give the players some confidence after beating a European heavyweight like Bayern Munich. Next up, Arsenal take on Fiorentina on Saturday.
