Arsenal boss confirms fresh injury blow after Chelsea stalemate
Arsene Wenger has confirmed a huge injury blow with the news that Danny Welbeck suffered a groin injury against Chelsea this afternoon.
Welbeck has been showing some fine early-season form as he looks to put his recent injury woes behind him and he was once again chosen to start against the Blues at Stamford Bridge today.
The 26-year-old missed a great chance to put us ahead in the first half after sending a header wide but his game came to an abrupt end after he tweaked his groin during the second half.
The England international limped off as he was replaced by Olivier Giroud in the 73rd minute and Wenger has now confirmed that Danny looks to have suffered a serious groin problem.
The boss told Arsenal.com:
He [Welbeck] has a groin problem. I don’t know how severe it is but it looks like a ‘good’ groin problem, not an easy one.
We’ll have to wait for Welbeck to undergo further tests before we’ll find out the full extent of the injury but the early signs aren’t good as he immediately signalled to the bench and it looks like he’s going to be ruled out for several weeks.
It means Welbeck is set to miss the upcoming games against Doncaster, West Brom, BATE Borisov and Brighton before the upcoming international break.
If the groin injury is a basic one, then hopefully Welbeck will be available when the squad reconvenes in early October ahead of the Watford game on the 14th. However, if the early fears are confounded and he’s suffered a serious injury, then we might not see him back for some time.
