[Photo] Arsenal boost as Gabriel offers positive injury update
It appears Arsenal have been handed a timely injury boost after Gabriel took to Instagram to say he’s feeling much better and claiming that his ankle injury is ‘not a big problem’.
The Brazilian went down in a heap during the final minute of our friendly victory over Manchester City in Gothenburg on Sunday night after falling awkwardly on his ankle.
Gabriel was left in tears as he received several minutes of treatment before being stretchered from the field and was pictured leaving the stadium on crutches as he made his way back to North London with the rest of the squad.
Arsene Wenger suggested the 25-year-old had suffered ligament damage so it initially looked as though the defender was facing several weeks on the treatment table.
However, Gabriel has now taken to his personal Instagram page to post an update saying that he’s feeling better and his injury is not a big problem.
If true, then this is obviously a huge boost as we were facing a disaster if Gabriel was ruled out for an extended period given that Per Mertesacker is out for another four months.
But I’m going to be cautious in not celebrating too soon. There have been plenty of reports suggesting that Arsenal plan to play down the severity of the Gabriel injury to help during transfer negotiations.
I’ve no idea whether this is true or not but you can’t trust Arsenal when it comes to injuries anyway. No doubt the club will say Gabriel will be out for the standard ‘3 weeks’ and we won’t see him again until 2017.
