Higuain, Mane & Guirassy on Arsene Wenger’s hit-list
With Arsenal’s proposed move for Jamie Vardy under increasing doubt, there has been plenty of speculation over who Arsene Wenger will turn his attention to next and the Daily Mail claim that the boss has a hit-list of potential targets in mind as he desperately looks to bring in another forward this summer.
The newspaper says that with prime targets such as Aubameyang, Lewandowski and Benzema likely to be out of reach, Gonzalo Higuain has once again emerged on Wenger’s radar and is the most high-profile name we are considering.
The Napoli hitman has just come off the back of a sensational campaign that saw him score 36 goals in 35 games and he’s undoubtedly one of the hottest strikers in Europe right now, so fans would love to see him come to the Emirates.
Higuain would be a huge upgrade on Olivier Giroud and we’d finally have a real out-and-out goalscorer leading the line up front. The Argentinean international could easily break the 30-goal mark for Arsenal next season.
However, the Mail claim that Napoli are desperate to keep hold of the 28-year-old and will demand a fee in the region of £65m, which is likely to put-off Wenger from making any serious play for his signature.
Also on Arsene’s radar is Sadio Mane with the Daily Mail claiming that the boss has been tracking the Senegalese international since his days at Red Bull Salzburg and could now formalise his interest this summer.
Mane is capable of playing as a support striker up front but is more at home on the wing so he’d perhaps be a replacement for Theo Walcott rather than a main striker at Arsenal but he’s still an exciting talent.
The 24-year-old scored 15 goals for Southampton last season but the Mail claim he’ll have a price-tag of £35m and we could face competition from the likes of Liverpool, Man Utd and Tottenham, so I have my doubts over whether we’ll go for him.
Another name claimed to be on Wenger’s hit-list by the newspaper is Sehrou Guirassy, who spent last season on loan at Auxerre from Lille, and the 20-year-old has supposedly been recommended to Arsene by his contacts in France.
We’re believed to have scouted the youngster last season and watched him score 8 goals in his 16 appearances and it’s understood we’re now mulling over a move for the French under-20 international.
Guirassy certainly wouldn’t be a main player if he was to join the club this summer as he’d no doubt just be one for the future, so I hope Wenger also buys an established name as well if he decides to buy the youngster.
Other more familiar names on the bosses list, according to the Mail, are Bayern Munich’s Mario Gotze, Juventus striker Alvaro Morata and Marseille hitman Michy Batshuayi but we’d face stiff competition for all three.
Arsenal open talks over £23m Brazilian
Of the names mentioned, my personal preference would be Higuain but I appreciate that deal is unlikely due to his price-tag. Gotze would be a great player to add to the attack but we’d need a central striker as well. Morata would be great as he has plenty of potential but he’ll also cost a fortune so it’s going to be interesting to see what Wenger decides to do.
The good news is that we’re in the market for a striker, but the bad news is there doesn’t really seem to be that many realistic top class forwards available….
