Predicted Arsenal line-up against Southampton
Arsenal are set to travel to St Mary’s Stadium to face Southampton in the FA Cup quarter-final tonight.
Following a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final, the Gunners’ dream of winning the quadruple has been shattered.
Still, they have the opportunity to end the season with a treble, a feat achieved only by Manchester United and Manchester City among English clubs.
On the other hand, Southampton have been unbeaten over the last 14 matches across all competitions, winning 11 of those fixtures.
Team news
Several Arsenal players were withdrawn from the international fixtures due to injury problems, and they are in doubt tonight.
Mikel Merino remains sidelined due to his injury, while Eberechi Eze and Piero Hincapié aren’t in contention to be involved owing to their respective problems. Moreover, Noni Madueke is set to remain sidelined after picking up an issue on international duty.
Predicted line-up
Although Mikel Arteta faced criticism for starting Kepa Arrizabalaga in goal against Man City last time out, he is likely to keep faith in the former Chelsea man in this cup fixture as well. So, David Raya would be among the substitutes.
Cristhian Mosquera and Riccardo Calafiori are expected to be the centre-back pairing for Arsenal tonight. Meaning, William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes may get a rest, keeping an eye on midweek’s Champions League encounter.
Ben White is likely to be the right-back, and Myles Lewis-Skelly could be on the opposite side. Therefore, Jurrien Timber would have to make do with a place on the bench.
Christian Norgaard should be the defensive midfielder, and Martin Odegaard may commence alongside the Dane for the Gunners. Kai Havertz might be in the CAM role. In that case, Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi might be among the substitutes.
Gabriel Martinelli is expected to be on the left flank, and Max Dowman could be on the opposite side. So, Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard may feature as substitutes if needed.
Gabriel Jesus is expected to lead the line for the North London club, and Viktor Gyokeres could be involved as a substitute.
Expected Arsenal line-up vs Southampton
Kepa; White, Mosquera, Calafiori, Lewis-Skelly; Norgaard, Odegaard, Havertz; Dowman, Jesus, Martinelli
