Arsenal eye move to sign AC Milan star Rafael Leao

By on May 10, 2025

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing AC Milan forward Rafael Leao, as per Caught Offside.

After moving to the San Siro Stadium from LOSC Lille, the Portuguese has enjoyed a successful time over the years, winning a Scudetto title and Supercoppa Italiana.

However, he has had an inconsistent campaign this season and hasn’t always been a regular starter. Still, he has scored 12 goals and registered 11 assists in all competitions. Moreover, the forward has helped his side reach the final of the Coppa Italia.

Now, Caught Offside claim that Arsenal are planning to reinforce the left side of the attack and have earmarked Athletic Club star Nico Williams as the primary target.

However, they have lined up Leao as an alternative option if they fail to hire the Spanish international and have been keeping a close eye on Leao’s situation before making a potential swoop this summer.

The Milan man has a £148m release clause in his current contract, which will run until 2028. However, the Rossoneri are open to letting him leave for a fee of around £64m.

Leao to Arsenal

The North London club aren’t the only club interested in the former Lille star as Chelsea and Saudi Arabian club, Al Nassr, are also considering plotting a move for him. But the player doesn’t want to leave Europe yet.

The Blues have already held initial talks over this deal, so the Gunners will have to step up efforts to sign the forward by beating the city rival in this race.

Leao is a quick and explosive winger. He is an excellent one-on-one dribbler and is efficient in creating opportunities for fellow attackers. Arsenal don’t have a LW of his attacking qualities at their disposal, so he could be a shrewd acquisition if they purchase him.

However, the 25-year-old’s work rate off the ball is poor, and Arteta likes to press opposition defenders high up the field. Therefore, he might not be an ideal option for the Emirates club to bolster the frontline.

Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure Leao’s service in the upcoming transfer window.
