Arsenal to submit bid to sign Chelsea target Jules Kounde
Arsenal are reportedly planning to launch a formal proposal to sign Chelsea target and Barcelona star Jules Kounde, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.
Since joining from Sevilla back in 2022, the 26-year-old has established himself as a key player for the Catalan giants. He was a centre-back for the Andalusian side but has been playing the right-back role for Barcelona.
He initially expressed his unwillingness to play in this area but has now accepted it. The defender has also been the first-choice right-back for France.
Kounde has won a La Liga title and a couple of Supercopa de España trophies with the Catalan giants. This season, he has been guiding his team to win the treble. In 49 appearances in all competitions, the defender has made 11 goal contributions and kept 16 clean sheets.
Now, Fichajes state that Arsenal have registered a firm interest in signing Kounde after monitoring his performances closely. The Gunners aren’t the only club interested in him as Chelsea are also plotting a swoop for him.
Kounde to Arsenal
However, the North London club are willing to trump their city rival in this race by submitting a formal £65m proposal. Barcelona don’t want to part ways with the 26-year-old as he has been a key player in Hansi Flick’s starting eleven. However, they could accept the Gunners’ offer should they receive it to balance the books amid their financial difficulties.
The defender is quick, strong, good in the air, comfortable playing out from the back and efficient in defensive contributions. He is one of the best right-sided defenders in La Liga, therefore, he would be an excellent option for Arteta’s system.
Considering Takehiro Tomiyasu has continued to struggle with injury problems in recent years, signing a new defender to replace him would be the right decision.
It is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club can eventually manage to secure Kounde’s service in the upcoming transfer window to strengthen the defensive department.
Meanwhile, following a disappointing 1-1 draw against Brentford in the Premier League, Arsenal will face off against Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final second leg on Wednesday night.
