Arsenal very strong contenders to sign Gilberto Mora
Arsenal are reportedly very strong contenders to sign Club Tijuana youngster Gilberto Mora, as per TEAMtalk.
Since moving to the Emirates Stadium from Real Madrid, Martin Odegaard has established himself as an undisputed starter. Although he failed to showcase his best due to fitness problems last term, Mikel Arteta’s side won the Premier League title.
Apart from the Norwegian, the Gunners currently have Eberechi Eze as an option to deploy in the CAM role. Moreover, Max Dowman is comfortable in this area.
As a result, Arsenal don’t need to add further depth to this position unless anyone leaves. However, TEAMtalk claim that Arteta and Andrea Berta have been impressed by Mora’s recent developments, with the Emirates club being very strong contenders to sign him.
FIFA rules block international transfers for minors, but the youngster is set to turn 18 this month. So, Arsenal can purchase him in January and have already held initial talks with the player’s representatives over a potential swoop.
Mora still has a contract until 2029, and Club Tijuana want a Liga MX record fee to sell him, with the midfielder having a release clause worth up to €25m[£21m].
The report state that Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, SL Benfica and AC Milan have also expressed their interest in him.
However, the North London club are expected to make an aggressive effort to finalise the operation by defeating other clubs in this race.
Mora to Arsenal
The 17-year-old is a creative midfielder by trait but is also comfortable in the box-to-box role. Furthermore, he can provide cover on the left flank if needed.
He came into the spotlight having displayed glimpses of his high potential for Mexico during the World Cup this summer. He is technically sound, can create opportunities for fellow attackers, and works hard without possession.
The Club Tijuana star is a talented player and possesses the potential to reach the top. Therefore, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services in January or next summer.
