Arsenal in ‘strong position’ to sign Bologna star Zirkzee

By on May 15, 2024

Arsenal are reportedly in a ‘strong position’ to sign Bologna star Joshua Zirkzee this summer, as per TEAMtalk.

Following underwhelming displays from Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah this season, the Gunners are seemingly set to prioritise signing a new prolific goal-scorer ahead of next season.

A plethora of centre-forwards have already been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent weeks with Alexander Isak, Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres being among them, but Zirkzee is reportedly on their radar as well.

The Dutchman has burst onto the scene after enjoying a promising campaign in Serie A this season, helping his side mount a top-four charge. So, it seems having been impressed by his recent performances, the Gunners have registered their interest in signing him.

According to the report by TEAMtalk, Juventus and AC Milan are also interested in Zirkzee but Bologna have slapped a £60m price tag on the striker’s head and neither of the Italian clubs can afford to splash that much money to sign him this summer.

Zirkzee to Arsenal

So, the report claims that it is likely Zirkzee will move abroad if he were to leave Bologna with Man Utd and Arsenal being mentioned as potential suitors.

However, TEAMtalk states that the 22-year-old is keen on playing in the Champions League so he might not want to move to Old Trafford as the Red Devils have failed to secure their place in Europe’s elite club competition next season.

So, it has been reported that Arsenal are currently in a ‘strong’ position to sign Zirkzee this summer and therefore, it remains to be seen whether they eventually opt to secure his signature to reinforce their frontline.

The Dutchman is a technically sound striker and has the efficiency of dribbling past opposition defenders in tight areas. He has the ability to play threading passes between the lines, can link-up the play and also has the efficiency of finishing off his chances.

Zirkzee is a highly talented player and could be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they purchase him. However, the Bologna star doesn’t have much experience of playing at the highest level so there is a question mark whether he would be the right option for Arsenal to help them achieve their lofty ambitions straight away if he joins the club in the upcoming transfer window.
