Arsenal plotting swoop for Sporting star Geny Catamo
Arsenal have reportedly been keeping a close eye on the development of Sporting CP star Geny Catamo ahead of a potential move in the upcoming transfer window, as per Football Transfers.
The Gunners have been exploring the possibility of signing a new winger for a very long time to support Bukayo Saka. Several players have been mentioned as potential targets for Mikel Arteta’s side over the last couple of years with Pedro Neto, Raphinha and Ferran Torres being among them.
However, they are yet to sign anyone to reinforce their frontline. It has been suggested that Arsenal were focusing on strengthening different areas of the squad in the last few transfer windows so they didn’t make a move for anyone to reinforce the right-flank.
But, the Gunners have now managed to bolster other areas of their squad so they could now make a move for a new right-winger next year.
Neto was mentioned as their primary target but he has now sustained a new hamstring issue. So, Arsenal might be planning to shift focus to alternative targets after getting concerned by the Portuguese’s recent injury problems and have identified Catamo as a potential option.
Catamo to Arsenal
According to the report by Football Transfers, the 22-year-old could leave Sporting CP in January and Arsenal have been monitoring his development in recent times ahead of a potential move next year.
However, the report claims that acquiring the Mozambique international’s service won’t be straightforward for Arsenal as Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa are also eyeing a swoop for him.
The 22-year-old is quick, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, has an eye for scoring goals and also can create chances for fellow attackers.
The African could be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they decide to purchase him next year. However, Catamo hasn’t been able to solidify his place in Sporting’s starting eleven yet after joining the club back in 2020.
So, there is a question mark whether he possesses the necessary qualities to help Arsenal achieve their lofty ambitions. Therefore, I think the North London club could be better off exploring other options to strengthen their frontline next year.
