Arsenal showing ‘great interest’ in signing Ilias Akhomach

By on May 3, 2023

Arsenal have reportedly been showing an active interest in signing Barcelona youngster Ilias Akhomach in the summer, as per the Spanish outlet Sport.

It has widely been suggested that the Gunners are keen on strengthening their squad during the off-season to challenge on all fronts from next term.

Midfield is an area that Mikel Arteta is prioritising but it has also been reported that the Spanish boss wants to sign a new right winger to support Bukayo Saka.

Arsenal have already been linked with numerous attackers ahead of the summer window with Raphinha, Moussa Diaby and Marco Asensio being among them, but it appears Akhomach is also on their radar.

According to the report by Sport, the Barcelona star has entered the final two months of his current contract and is unlikely to sign an extension. So, he is set to leave the Blaugrana for free at the end of this season.

Akhomach to Arsenal

The report further claims that Arsenal have been showing a ‘great interest’ in signing Akhomach as a free agent to reinforce their right-wing position.

But, Sport says that Arsenal are set to face fierce competition from AC Milan and Sevilla in getting any potential deal done for Akhomach as they are also keen on signing the highly talented winger.

The 19-year-old is a left-footed right-sided attacker. He is technically sound, quick, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, has the ability to play defence-splitting passes from the deep and also can finish off his chances.

Akhomach is deemed one of the best young talents at Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy. So, he would certainly be a shrewd signing for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future if they manage to get a deal done this summer.

Mikel Arteta has showcased his ability to nurture and develop young talents during his time at Arsenal. So, the North London club would be an ideal destination for Akhomach to flourish and reach his full potential if he were to move to the Emirates Stadium at the end of this season.

However, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal opt to formalise their interest should the 19-year-old eventually ends up leaving Barcelona in the summer.
