[Photos] Injury boost for Arsenal as duo train ahead of Newcastle but key man missing
Arsenal have been handed a double injury boost as Aaron Ramsey and Nacho Monreal took part in training on Sunday ahead of the Newcastle game but there was no sign of Granit Xhaka.
Ramsey was initially a doubt for Monday night’s game at the Emirates Stadium after being forced to pull out of the Wales squad during the international break with a thigh injury.
However, Unai Emery said at his pre-match press conference on Friday that he was confident Ramsey would be fit and the midfielder was able to take part in full training with the rest of the squad this afternoon.
Monreal was also facing a late fitness test after missing Arsenal’s warm weather training camp in Dubai last week with a minor calf problem but the left-back was also out on the training pitches at London Colney today so should be fit to face Newcastle.
However, it looks like Xhaka will miss out tomorrow night as there was no sign of him in training today. Xhaka limped out of Switzerland’s 3-3 draw with Denmark last week with a groin injury and despite Emery saying he was hopeful the midfielder would recover in time to take on Newcastle, it seems he’ll miss out.
Arsenal have no other injury worries to contend with other than our three long-term absentees with Hector Bellerin, Danny Welbeck and Rob Holding all out for the rest of the season.
Lucas Torreira is fully fit but the Uruguayan international will miss the visit of Newcastle United through suspension as he’ll serve the final game of his three-match ban following his sending off against Tottenham.
