From Spain: Arsenal open talks over audacious swoop for world class attacker

According to reports in Spain via the Express, Arsenal have made contact with Real Madrid to discuss a shock deal to sign former Tottenham star Gareth Bale this summer.
Bale joined Madrid from Spurs in 2013 but has been tipped to leave the Bernabeu in the summer after enduring a tough 18 months that have been hampered by a series of injury problems.
The 28-year-old made just 26 starts last season and has 15 La Liga starts to his name so far this campaign having missed a large part of the season with a niggling calf injury.
The likes of Isco and Marco Asensio have put Bale’s first team place under threat and the Welsh international was left out of the Madrid starting eleven for their Champions League quarter-final with Juventus this evening.
It’s only fuelled speculation that Madrid are ready to cash-in on the attacker and Manchester United are reportedly hoping to lure Bale back to the Premier League.
However, it looks like Arsenal have thrown their hat in to the ring as the Express are citing a report from Diario Gol that claims we’ve made contact with Madrid to discuss a shock deal to sign Bale.
We’ve loosened the purse strings in recent transfer windows having broken our transfer record twice to sign Alexandre Lacazette last summer and then Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January.
It seems Arsene Wenger is hoping Bale will be the next big-money arrival and he could be viewed as a more direct replacement for Alexis Sanchez following his move to United.
Bale has had his injury problems but he’s still a world class player and he’d no doubt be a superb addition to the squad if we could somehow lure him to the Emirates.
However, the report from Spain suggest it’s unlikely to happen as Bale is apparently reluctant to join Arsenal. He probably sees us as a step down from Madrid and I’d guess his links with Tottenham will also put him off.
It was always going to be a difficult deal to pull off so I don’t think we’ll be seeing Bale in an Arsenal shirt any time soon.
