Arsenal star Per Mertesacker has offered a positive injury update on Twitter after confirming he’s heading back to London to undergo the final stage of his rehabilitation.
Mertesacker has not featured this season after suffering a knee ligament injury during pre-season and was initially not expected back until around the New Year.
The centre-back has been undergoing intense treatment in Germany in recent months and Per sparked rumours he could return ahead of schedule after revealing that his rehab was going well earlier this month.
It looks as though Mertesacker is now ready to step-up his recovery as he’s taken to Twitter today to post another update by telling his followers that his rehab couldn’t have gone better and he’s now heading back to North London.
The 32-year-old will no doubt undergo a strict training regime at London Colney and it will take him a few weeks before he’ll be back up to full fitness but it’s great to hear that he’s closing in on making his long-awaited comeback.

I still don’t think we’ll see Per available for selection until mid-December but his return will further strengthen the squad as we head in to the busy festive period over Christmas and New Year.
Although it’s safe to say that the German will have a fight on his hands to reclaim his first team place as Shkodran Mustafi has forged a superb partnership alongside Laurent Koscielny following his arrival in the summer.
