Talks underway as Arsenal look to sign £40m striker & £35m attacker

Arsene Wenger is continuing to work hard on strengthening his squad ahead of the new season but the latest Premier League lines will certainly be affected if the Arsenal boss can pull off this sensational £75m double swoop….

According to the Mirror, Arsene Wenger is ready to splash out £75m to sign Leicester City attacker Riyad Mahrez and Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette this summer.

The boss has been desperately trying to strengthen his attacking options but we’ve been frustrated with moves for a number of high profile players such as Jamie Vardy and Gonzalo Higuain.

But it looks like Wenger has now set his sights on bringing in two new faces over the coming weeks with the Mirror claiming we’re lining-up big-money moves for both Mahrez and Lacazette.

Mahrez has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates recently and reports just yesterday suggested that the Leicester star has agreed to join Arsenal after Wenger held talks with his agent after our friendly with Lens on Friday night.

Claudio Ranieri is determined to keep hold of the PFA Player of the Year but he’s always said he wont keep players against their will and the Mirror claim that Leicester will be willing to sell for around £35m.

That would be an excellent deal for a player of his quality and Mahrez would be a significant improvement on our current right-wing options after scoring 17 goals as well as providing 10 assists last season.

And it could be a sensational double swoop as the Mirror say that Wenger is also pressing ahead with a move for Lacazette as he looks to bring in competition for Olivier Giroud.

The 25-year-old is one of the best strikers in Ligue 1 and scored 23 goals for Lyon last year despite enduring a poor start to the season that saw him score just once in his opening eight games.

The newspaper claims Wenger has already held talks with the French international’s agent and while Lyon don’t want to lose their top scorer, they are ready to sell if an offer of £40m is put on the table.

Signing Mahrez and Lacazette would cost a combined £75m which is big money for Arsene but they would significantly improve our attacking options so I’d love to see both players join Arsenal this summer.

The Mirror suggest that Wenger is keen to get new faces on board before our opener against Liverpool so we should see some movement over the next couple of weeks. Here’s hoping the boss can pull off this double deal….

    To get both players would mean Wenger spending £100m of Kroenke’s money this transfer window. That just isn’t going to happen. Git-zadis has already said Arsenal has spent big this window – apparently £35m is now considered spending big, rather than being the standard price this season for a half-decent player (but not a top player).

    If either club hold out for £40m+ for their player, Wenger will not pursue them.

    This annual diatribe of “we will pay big, for the right player” is irrelevant when you understand that no ‘right player’ that demands a big price will come to play for a perennial underachiever. Those players want to win trophies to show their grandchildren, and they have little chance of doing that if they play for Wenger.

    Wenger has done a good job based on the money he has spent. But he has not won the PL for 12 years and that is partly because the teams he has assembled are not good enough to execute the strategy he applies to every game (and it is the same strategy for EVERY game, regardless of opposition or team selection!).

    I do not expect to see the signature of a player that will bring the necessary positive impact the team needs to win the PL next season. Giroud will continue to do what he does, and do it well, but Giroud alone is not sufficient as a strike force. The other perennial underachievers will continue on the same road of not being good enough for the team – Oxlaide-Chamberlain, Walcott. Ramsey will continue to make no aggressive advancement into the opposition territory, but will play the ball sideways and backwards (he didn’t do that for Wales, so why for Arsenal?). Bellerin will continue what he did last season, waste his natural ability to take on the opposition down the right flank, and instead stop and then play the ball backwards (he was so threatening the previous season, why did he change his game?). Ozil will continue to be frustrated by the lack of quality movement from his team mates and their unwillingness to run into space to receive the ball, and he will lose interest by the time the clock hits 70 minutes (why does every Arsenal player want to be standing still when they receive a pass and the pass be no more than 5 yards?).

    Arsenal will gain 65%+ possession, but end up having only a handful shots that are all from outside the box and mostly off target.

    Good players and half-decent players are being made to look like bad players; either by Wenger’s strategy and the tactics he imposes on the players, or by the players themselves being at a lost as to what to do individually and as a team.

    All this adds up to Arsenal having more chance of f****** the Pope than winning the PL next season.

    There is apparently no release clause in Riyad’s contract. He has 3 years to run on the current deal and is happy at Leicester. You can tell from his whole demeanour.
    Leicester will demand a fee in excess of £70m if pressed but its not going to happen.

    My advise to all Arsenal fans all over the world is that we should all be praying so that Arsene wenger will wake up one day & decided to leave Arsenal fc.Either he look for another job or he face his father’s land.Because, Arsene is not ready to buy any player again. Therefore, I don’t know may be Arsenal fans in London can turn things around in form of commotion in London coloney that’s their training ground or Emirates stadium. ARSEN WENGER OUTTT
