Arsenal lead the race for Jamie Bynoe-Gittens transfer
Arsenal are reportedly leading the race to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Bynoe-Gittens this summer.
According to German outlet Ruhr Nachrichten, the Gunners have moved ahead of their Premier League rivals in the chase.
The 20-year-old is said to have informed Dortmund of his desire to leave at the end of the season.
Several reports suggest that he is ready for a new challenge, and interest from England continues to grow.
Arsenal want to add quality to their wings, and Bynoe-Gittens fits the profile Mikel Arteta is looking for.
The England Under-21 international is known for his speed, dribbling, and ability to beat defenders.
He has scored 12 goals and assisted five more across all competitions this season for Borussia Dortmund.
The youngster’s versatility is also a major asset, as he can play on both wings and in attacking midfield.
Chelsea trail Arsenal in Gittens’ pursuit
Arsenal are believed to have overtaken Chelsea in the race to sign the talented wide player this summer.
The Blues have reportedly contacted the player’s representatives in an effort to secure a deal ahead of the window.
However, Arsenal’s project and Arteta’s development of young players may have given them the upper hand.
Gittens has made over 100 appearances for Borussia Dortmund and has impressed in both domestic and European games.
This season, he has added more end product to his game, and his performances have caught the attention of top clubs.
Borussia Dortmund are currently fifth in the Bundesliga table and may be forced to sell key players this summer.
Arsenal believe that Gittens can provide serious competition for Gabriel Martinelli on the left wing.
With Leandro Trossard also in the squad, the Gunners are looking to build strong depth across all attacking positions.
A deal for Gittens is not final yet, but Arsenal appear to be in a strong position to make it happen.
The winger is valued at around £43 million (transfermarkt), a fee considered affordable for Arsenal given their plans to be active in the summer window.
Talks are expected to continue as the transfer window approaches and the season draws to a close.
