The real reason Jamie Vardy snubbed Arsenal revealed by SSN

By on June 24, 2016

According to Sky Sports News, the real reason Jamie Vardy snubbed a £20m move to Arsenal is that he was not convinced our style of play suited his game.

After weeks of speculation, yesterday Vardy finally confirmed his decision to reject a proposed move to Arsenal after agreeing to sign a new four-year contract extension with Leicester City.

Arsenal had agreed to trigger the strikers £30m release clause and reports in the media suggested the player had verbally agreed terms over a three-year deal worth £120,000-a-week following talks with Arsene Wenger.

However, after mulling over the move for the last couple of weeks, Vardy decided to stay with Leicester and many assumed it was because he felt he owed it to the Foxes to play in the Champions League with them after helping fire them to the title. Plus, they had offered him the security of an extra year on his deal.

However, Sky Sports News claim that the actual reason was because Vardy had concerns that he wouldn’t fit in to Arsenal’s style of play – something I’ve eluded to several times during this whole saga.

Vardy excelled in a Leicester side that played on the counter attack which allowed him to utilise his pace, however, at Arsenal we largely play on the front foot and try to break down 10-man defences for the entire 90 minutes.

Vardy wouldn’t have the space he needs to do his thing so it’s understandable that the striker was concerned he wouldn’t fit in, and I know many Arsenal fans, myself included, shared the same concerns.

Sky Sports also claim that Wenger didn’t give Vardy any guarantees that he wouldn’t be played out of position at Arsenal with many believing that the boss had earmarked the 29-year-old to play out on the wing at times.

Odds slashed on Arsenal signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

As I’ve said many times, there was always a worry that Vardy wouldn’t fit in at Arsenal and I’m glad the player realised this too. It also shows us that he doesn’t have the confidence in his own ability to adapt his style to play, so we’re better off moving on to other targets.

Why is it always assumed he doesn’t have the confidence to adapt his style to play for Arsenal, I mean why should he when his his best attribute is his pace and getting in behind defences? It’s just sensible to play for a team who play to your strengths rather than going to a one that don’t, it’s a no brainer really.

The ‘real’ real reason is that Leicester offered him a new contract. He wanted more money from his club and used Arsenal to achieve that.

But wouldn’t Leicester fight for there man? Silly Wenger to offer just the amount for the release clause. By the way why didn’t he offer one pound more?
There more to it that meet the eyes. Arsene is also again at his old tricks luring fans to believe he is looking for a striker that could win them the league. That is the last thing he wants to do, his objectives remain to be competitive, qualify for the CL, play the FA and league challenge long enough to fill Stan pockets and earn his 7million a year. Nothing more. Winning the title may not be as profitable as challenging for 4th place.
He did not for one moment want Vardy to join Arsenal, he wants fans to think he is looking to challenge for the title, then renew his contract. Ultimately in his mind, our main striker will be OG next year.
    That’s it.
