Arsenal in talks over surprise deal to sign South American hitman

According to the Daily Star, Arsenal are in talks with Manchester City over what would be a sensational straight swap deal involving Alexis Sanchez and Sergio Aguero.

As we all know, Alexis’s future at Arsenal is in serious doubt as he’s about to enter the final year of his contract and we’ve yet to agree terms over an extension despite holding lengthy talks with his representatives.

Our Chilean superstar has been linked with the likes of PSG, Juventus and Bayern Munich but Chelsea and Man City have also been credited with an interest here in England.

Alexis has always said he’s happy in the Premier League but Arsene Wenger has insisted he won’t sell to a rival if the 29-year-old doesn’t commit his future by signing a new deal this summer.

We’ve heard that all before from the boss only to see key players join the likes of City and it seems Alexis could join a long list of Arsenal men to head to the Etihad as the Daily Star claim Pep Guardiola has made Sanchez his prime target.

However, instead of cashing-in, the newspaper says Arsenal have entered talks with City about a potential swap deal that would see Aguero come to the Emirates in the opposite direction.

The Argentinean international’s future at City is also in doubt as he lost his place to Gabriel Jesus during the second half of last season before the Brazilian hitman got injured.

Guardiola has questioned whether Aguero fits in to his philosophy and he’d fall even further down the pecking order if City were successful in signing Sanchez this summer.

Therefore, if Alexis makes it clear he isn’t going to sign a new deal with Arsenal then we’re going to have to sell and a swap deal with Aguero could suit all parties.

Obviously I’d prefer to see Sanchez stay and sign a new contract but it’s looking increasingly unlikely that’s going to happen so getting Aguero in exchange sounds like a decent deal to me. Not ideal, but seeing Aguero in the Red & White would certainly soften the blow of losing Alexis, that’s for sure.

Despite his injury concerns [which would be a worry if he did join Arsenal], Aguero still banged in 30 goals for City last year and he’s undoubtedly a huge upgrade on our other strikers so I’d love to see him join Arsenal.

However, before we get too excited, there is virtually no chance this proposed swap deal is actually going to happen. Swap deals are incredibly difficult to negotiate and it will be impossible to agree terms for world class players like Sanchez and Aguero.

In an ideal world, we’d have Aguero playing WITH Sanchez and Ozil in what would be one of the best attacks around but that’s highly unlikely so the best we can hope for is that Alexis either signs a new deal or we sell him abroad.

Not going to happen. Aguero has a few years left on his contract so no pressure to sell so higher value. The City Chairman has said on video that he stays period. City want both in the team. Why would Aguero agree to take a drop to a non Champions League club? There is now player power and Sanchez will join City not be forced abroad for he wants to play for Guardiola.

If he wants to leave he should leave and we will find his replacement, As a die hard Gunner I don’t fear losing Sanchez coz he is not Arsenal, remember that HENRY left us but we are still Arsenal. Sanchez have failed to lead us to glory but my super 14 lead us to invincibles and then left……., let him go for the right price.
