Arsenal looking to trump PSG to sign Ferran Torres

Arsenal are plotting an ambitious swoop to sign Ferran Torres from Barcelona this summer, as per CaughtOffside.

Despite his notoriety for consistently missing clear chances, Torres has now established himself as not just one of Barcelona’s reliable forwards but one of the best across Europe.

Following his move from Manchester City in January 2022, he began his campaign at the Camp Nou with just eight goal contributions and then went from there in his first full campaign with 11 goals and four assists.

It has been an upward trajectory for the 26-year-old, who enjoyed a prolific 2024-25 season, with 26 goal contributions to help Hansi Flick’s side win the domestic treble.

In the recently concluded campaign, he recorded a high goal output yet again, netting 21 goals and providing three assists as Barcelona clinched the LaLiga title.

His performances also extended to the international stage, where he famously netted the winner for Spain in the World Cup final.

With a year left on his contract, Torres has been a subject of keen interest in the transfer market this summer, with French giants Paris Saint-Germain reportedly plotting his transfer.

However, it appears Arsenal are looking to trump the European champions, as CaughtOffside now reports that the Gunners are exploring a move for Torres as a potential alternative to Vinicius Jr, who has renewed his contract with Real Madrid.

Ambitious swoop

The report adds that while PSG are the favourites to sign the Spaniard after holding advanced talks, the deal is not completed yet.

As a result, Arsenal have now entered the race, with CaughtOffside adding that the north London giants have discussed a potential move for Torres internally and have contacted his camp to be informed about his situation.

Last season, the trio of Noni Madueke, Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli only accounted for ten Premier League goals, which has heightened the need for a consistent goalscorer in that position.

While there are high hopes for Tzolis, who provided 51 goal contributions last season, to help raise the output, the Gunners still need a more experienced and higher-quality left winger to compete with the Greek international as they look to compete for major honours next season.

With no indication in the report that PSG have begun official club-to-club talks with Barcelona to sign Torres at the time of writing, Arsenal still have the opportunity to trump the French champions by submitting a concrete offer around his £47m Transfermarkt valuation to sign him.
