Arsenal eye move to sign Barcelona’s Jules Kounde

By on August 12, 2026

Arsenal are reportedly weighing up a swoop to sign Barcelona defender Jules Kounde, as per Spanish outlet Sport.

Since moving to Camp Nou from Sevilla, the 27-year-old has enjoyed great success over the last few years, winning three La Liga titles and a few domestic cup competitions.

Last season, Kounde displayed promising performances, scoring three goals and registering four assists in 47 appearances across all competitions. Moreover, he helped his side keep 10 clean sheets.

Having proven his worth in club football, the defender has secured his place in the French national team’s starting line-up, helping his country reach the World Cup semi-final before losing to eventual champions Spain.

Now, Sport report that Barcelona are planning to sign Rodrigo Hernandez, Julian Alvarez and João Cancelo, having already purchased Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi this summer.

So, they are willing to free up salary cap space by selling stars and are ready to let Kounde leave if his potential suitors launch a lucrative proposal. After letting Ronald Araujo join Liverpool, the Blaugrana are also interested in selling Marc Casado.

The report state that Arsenal are keeping a close eye on the Frenchman’s current situation and are prepared to make a move if he eventually becomes available this summer.

Kounde to Arsenal

The Gunners are looking for a top-class right-sided defender following William Saliba’s injury, and Mikel Arteta likes the Barcelona star due to his ability to play in CB and RB positions.

However, having recently signed a fresh long-term contract until 2030, Kounde has no intention of leaving Barcelona this summer and is set to hold talks with Hansi Flick over his future.

Alongside Saliba, Jurrien Timber has also been struggling with fitness problems in recent months. So, Arsenal currently have Cristhian Mosquera and Ben White as the only available options to deploy in the RCB and RB roles.

However, White has had fitness problems in recent years, while Mosquera is still very young and needs time to develop. So, Arsenal could do with signing a new defender.

Kounde, valued at around £51m by Transfermarkt, is a talented player and is currently at the prime stage of his career. Therefore, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.
