Arsenal ‘Set To Bid’ For France International – Reports
Arsenal are set to make a move for Newcastle United right-back Mathieu Debuchy, according to reports today.
Obviously with Bacary Sagna heading to Manchester City on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the month, we need to bring in an experienced right-back this summer.
Several names have been linked in recent weeks but the latest is Sagna’s international rival, Mathieu Debuchy, who is currently on the books at Newcastle.
The 28-year-old is vastly experienced and has actually been keeping Sagna out of the starting line-up at the World Cup, with Didier Deschamps starting him in the first two games against Honduras and Switzerland before being rested last night against Ecuador.
Debuchy also made 46 appearances for the Geordies last season so has plenty of knowledge of the Premier League, which would be hugely valuable when picking Sagna’s successor.
Reports claim Arsene is now readying a bid for the Frenchman, however, we’re going to face stiff competition from Paris Saint-Germain, as Laurent Blanc also has his eye on the player.
I actually think Debuchy would be a useful replacement for Bac and he should be available for around the £10m mark. He’s recently come out and said he wants to be back playing in the Champions League, so I’m sure he’d jump at the chance of moving to the Emirates if we could agree a deal with Newcastle.
