Arsenal plotting audacious double swoop to sign Eli Kroupi & Kenan Yildiz
Arsenal are plotting an audacious double swoop to sign Bournemouth centre-forward Eli Junior Kroupi and Juventus left winger Kenan Yildiz, according to the Mirror.
The Gunners added only Christos Tzolis to their attack last summer, despite high expectations that they would add significant depth up front.
To their credit, they were heavily linked with some ambitious moves, with reports revealing their interest in Morgan Rogers and Vinicius Jr.
However, a deal failed to materialise as Chelsea trumped them to sign Rogers, while Vinicius agreed to an improved six-year contract extension with Real Madrid.
While Mikel Arteta’s side have been in strong form, particularly in the Premier League, their attack is yet to hit top gear. Arsenal’s 14 goals are the fewest among the top four and the joint-third fewest among the top eight, with only fifth-placed Liverpool (11) and seventh-placed Everton (9) scoring fewer.
As a result, the Mirror now reports that the Gunners manager is pushing to bolster his attack in January, with a centre-forward as his priority.
One option the club is looking at is Bournemouth’s Kroupi, according to the report, which claims Arsenal have put the Frenchman on their radar.
However, the Cherries are unwilling to sell the youngster in January, while Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are also set to battle with the Gunners for his signature, the report adds.
In addition to Kroupi, the Mirror adds that Arsenal remain interested in signing Turkish international left winger Yildiz from Juventus.
Double swoop
The report adds that there’s growing optimism Arteta is looking to bolster his attack in January to compete on both domestic and European fronts, with Yildiz and Kroupi now being targeted.
Kroupi ended last season with 13 Premier League goals, surpassing the previous record of 12 held by Robbie Keane and Robbie Fowler to become the teenager with the most goals in a debut campaign.
He notably scored Bournemouth’s goal in the decisive 1-1 draw with Manchester City in May, officially handing Arsenal the Premier League title. It would therefore be a fairy-tale move for the Gunners to bring him to the Emirates, although an offer around his £58m Transfermarkt valuation may not be enough for the Cherries, who are keen on retaining him.
On the other hand, Yildiz, valued at £62m by Transfermarkt, would add flair, creativity, and directness from the flanks while also offering a strong attacking return, having registered 21 goal contributions for Juventus last season.
Both players are expected to command significant fees, with at least four years remaining on their respective contracts. It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will break the bank to sign both, pursue just one, or turn their attention to a more affordable attacking duo.
