Arsenal interested in signing Sturm Graz’s Luca Weinhandl

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Sturm Graz midfielder Luca Weinhandl, as per TEAMtalk.

Following Thomas Partey and Jorginho’s departure last year, the Gunners decided to revamp the midfield department by purchasing Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard.

However, the Dane struggled to break into Mikel Arteta’s starting line-up last term before joining Everton this summer. On the other hand, Zubimendi enjoyed a bright start at the Emirates club but struggled to continue the momentum.

As a result, Arsenal upgraded the midfield department once again this summer and signed Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United for a fee of around £75m.

Meaning, Arteta currently has Guimaraes, Zubimendi, Declan Rice, Mikel Merino and Myles Lewis-Skelly as deeper midfield options.

Therefore, Arsenal currently have enough midfielders, but it appears they have already started exploring targets with a view to the long-term future.

Now, TEAMtalk claim that Arsenal are keeping a close eye on Weinhandl’s development and could make a move to secure his services in the upcoming winter transfer window.

Weinhandl to Arsenal

Apart from the Gunners, Newcastle United, Brighton & Hove Albion and Aston Villa are also considering making a move for him. Moreover, German and Italian clubs are interested in him.

However, the report state that Sturm Graz don’t want to sell him, while the 17-year-old isn’t pushing to leave as he is happy to continue his development in the Austrian Bundesliga. But if Sturm Graz eventually opt to part ways with him in January, they want around £20m.

Weinhandl, standing at 6ft 3in tall, is a right-footed box-to-box midfielder and has been featuring regularly for Sturm Graz this season, playing nine games across all competitions.

He is dynamic, technically sound, composed under pressure, can make surging runs from deep, and is efficient in playing threading passes between the lines.

The youngster is a talented player and possesses high potential. Therefore, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future should they purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services in January or next summer.
