Arsenal ready to make move to sign Barcelona’s Fermin Lopez
Arsenal are reportedly prepared to launch an ambitious swoop to sign Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez, as per Catalan outlet El Nacional.
After coming through the Blaugrana’s famous La Masia academy, the 23-year-old made his first team debut in 2023. Initially, he featured as a rotational option but showcased his productivity last campaign.
In 34 starts across all competitions, the Spaniard scored 13 goals and registered 17 assists. He has won two La Liga titles and a few domestic cup competitions at Camp Nou thus far.
Lopez has even enjoyed a stellar start this season, scoring four goals and registering two assists in five La Liga appearances. So, it appears having been impressed by his recent eye-catching performances, Arsenal have registered their interest in him.
Now, El Nacional report that Arsenal are prepared to make a move to sign Lopez and are ready to increase his current salary to persuade him to join. But they will have to overcome stiff competition from Chelsea to finalise the operation as Xabi Alonso considers him as the perfect fit for his system.
López isn’t keen on leaving his boyhood club and wants Barcelona to match the wage offered by the Gunners. On the other hand, Barcelona have no intention of letting him leave even if they receive a lucrative proposal worth around £86m[€100m].
However, the report state that Arsenal and Chelsea are prepared to launch an offer of more than £86m to seal the deal, with his existing deal set to run until 2031.
López to Arsenal
Lopez is a creative midfielder by trait but can also play in the box-to-box role. Furthermore, he is comfortable on the flanks if needed. He is quick, technically sound, has an eye for scoring goals from distance and is efficient in creating opportunities for fellow attackers.
Moreover, he has an eye for long-range passing, can finish off his chances and also works hard without possession. Lopez has shown glimpses of his qualities at the highest level in recent years and hasn’t reached his prime yet.
Therefore, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they purchase him. However, having already got Martin Odegaard and Eberechi Eze, the Emirates club don’t need a new CAM.
