Arsenal held talks to sign Jorge Domínguez this summer

By on September 10, 2026

Arsenal reportedly made contact over a deal to sign Atletico Madrid defender Jorge Domínguez this summer, as per TEAMtalk.

The Gunners currently have Ben White and Jurrien Timber as the right-back options. However, the Dutchman has struggled with a groin injury over the last few months.

Amid Timber’s absence, White has been playing regularly this season, but he has had numerous fitness problems over the last two seasons. Moreover, Cristhian Mosquera and new summer signing, Ezri Konsa, can provide cover in this area if needed.

Meaning, Arsenal already have enough options for the right side of the defence, but it appears the North London club have already started thinking about the future.

TEAMtalk claim that Arsenal held extensive talks with Atletico Madrid to sign Julian Alvarez, but they eventually failed to persuade him to join before the deadline.

During those conversations, Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta asked about the details of signing Domínguez, but Los Rojiblancos rejected the approach.

The Spanish giants consider the youngster a key player for their long-term future. So, they have no intention of parting ways with him.

Domínguez to Arsenal

The report state that Arsenal aren’t the only club attracted by his recent development, as Chelsea and Manchester City have also been impressed by him.

Moreover, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are keeping a close eye on his performances before making a potential swoop.

The 16-year-old is a 6ft 4in tall, right-footed versatile defender, as he is comfortable in the right-back and centre-back positions. Mikel Arteta even likes having versatile defenders like him.

Domínguez is quick, strong, good in the air, comfortable playing out from the back, and is efficient in defensive contributions. He is a talented player and possesses high potential.

Therefore, he would have been a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future had they eventually managed to secure his services this summer.

Meanwhile, following Napoli’s assignment in the Champions League last night, the North London club are set to face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light in the Premier League before taking on Ipswich Town in the Carabao Cup next week.
