Arsenal plot late swoop to sign Leicester City’s Louis Page

Arsenal are reportedly planning to launch a late swoop to sign Leicester City midfielder Louis Page, as per The Athletic journalist Laurie Whitwell.

After ranking through the Foxes’ youth system, the 18-year-old made his first-team debut last year. He featured as a rotational option last campaign but has been playing regularly this season.

Now, on the Talk of the Devils podcast, Whitwell reports that Arsenal are interested in signing Page and Leicester want a few million to let him leave, with his existing deal set to run until 2029.

However, the Gunners will have to overcome stiff competition to seal the deal as Manchester United are also in this race. They are even evaluating whether they can afford to sign him.

Academy signings can be made after the end of the transfer window, but Page is going to be a first-team acquisition. So, the deal needs to be done before today’s deadline.

Page is a 6ft 1in tall left-footed versatile midfielder. He likes to be deployed in a box-to-box role but can provide cover in the defensive midfield and CAM roles if needed.

The youngster is technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, is efficient in playing threading passes between the lines, and is strong in defensive contributions.

Page is a talented player and possesses high potential. Therefore, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future.

However, he is still very young and needs time to reach his full potential. So, he might not be ready to help Mikel Arteta’s side achieve their lofty ambitions immediately should he join before the deadline.

Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to secure his services.

Meanwhile, after moving to the Emirates Stadium from Brentford last summer, Christian Norgaard struggled to showcase his best. So, Arsenal have decided to refresh the engine room this summer.

Having allowed the Dane to join Everton, Arteta’s side have purchased Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United. So, they currently have the Brazilian plus Declan Rice, Mikel Merino, Martin Zubimendi, and Myles Lewis-Skelly as deeper midfield options.
