Arsenal are set to start the new Premier League campaign against newly promoted side Coventry City at the Emirates Stadium tonight.

After winning the Premier League title last season, the Gunners thrashed Manchester City 3-0 courtesy of Riccardo Calafiori, Kai Havertz and Martin Odegaard’s goals in the Community Shield last weekend.

On the other hand, having won the Championship last term, Coventry City displayed promising performances during pre-season, winning two out of the three games and drawing the other one.

Team news

Arsenal have signed Illan Meslier, Christos Tzolis and Bruno Guimaraes thus far this summer. Although Meslier and Tzolis are likely to be ready to be involved in this game, Guimaraes is in doubt, having picked up an issue last weekend.

The Brazilian started the game vs Man City but was taken off at half-time and was later spotted with ice wrapped around his right thigh. Moreover, William Saliba and Jurrien Timber aren’t in contention to feature tonight due to their respective problems.

However, Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka are ready to be involved vs Coventry City.

Predicted line-up

David Raya is expected to keep hold of his place in goal, meaning Kepa Arrizabalaga and Meslier would have to make do with a place on the bench.

In front of the Spaniard, Cristhian Mosquera and Gabriel Magalhaes are likely to be the centre-back pairing for the hosts. Ben White should keep hold of his place in right-back position amid Timber’s absence, while Calafiori might be on the opposite side. So, Piero Hincapié might be among the substitutes.

If Guimaraes can’t recover in time, Myles Lewis-Skelly is set to be the deep-lying playmaker, and Rice should start alongside him in midfield. In that case, Martin Zubimendi and Mikel Merino would have to settle for a place on the bench.

Odegaard is expected to continue in the creative midfield position for Arsenal, and Eberechi Eze could feature off the bench.

Tzolis could keep hold of his place on the left flank having displayed a promising performance last weekend, while Saka might commence on the opposite side.

Havertz is likely to be the striker for Arsenal tonight; therefore, Viktor Gyokeres and Noni Madueke would be among the substitutes.

Expected Arsenal line-up vs Coventry City:

Raya; White, Mosquera, Saliba, Calafiori; Lewis-Skelly, Rice, Odegaard; Saka, Havertz, Tzolis
