Arsenal showing greater interest than Liverpool for Konsa

Arsenal are reportedly showing greater interest than Liverpool in signing Aston Villa star Ezri Konsa, as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Following William Saliba’s serious back injury, the Gunners currently have Cristhian Mosquera, Jurrien Timber and Ben White as options to deploy in the RCB position.

However, Mikel Arteta has mainly used Timber and White as right-backs, while the Englishman has struggled with fitness problems in recent years.

On the other hand, Mosquera is still very young and needs time to develop. So, it appears the Emirates club are considering reinforcing the backline this summer.

Now, on Givemesport’s Market Madness podcast, Romano states that Arsenal are expected to remain busy over the coming weeks and are interested in Konsa.

Liverpool are also considering reinforcing the backline and hold an interest in the Aston Villa star, but the North London club are showing greater interest in securing his services.

Romano said:

“They [Arsenal] will be busy for sure. On some of the names you ask me: on Konsa, I’m told there is more interest from Arsenal than Liverpool at this stage, but let’s see. [There is] Still [a] long [time to go]. I think both clubs will be keen on defenders, so there will be movements from now [until] the end of the window.”

Konsa to Arsenal

Konsa is a right-footed centre-back by trait but can provide cover in the right-back position if needed. He is quick, strong, good in the air and is comfortable playing out from the back.

Moreover, he, valued at around £38m by Transfermarkt, is composed with possession, reads the game well and is efficient in defensive contributions.

Since moving to Villa Park from Brentford, the 28-year-old has established himself as an undisputed starter, helping his side win the Europa League last campaign.

In 48 appearances across all competitions, he scored twice and kept 15 clean sheets last term. Having proven his worth in club football, he secured his place in England’s World Cup squad, helping his country finish third.

Konsa is a Premier League-proven player and is currently at the prime stage of his career. Therefore, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services this summer.
