Arsenal keeping close eye on Barcelona’s Ferran Torres

Arsenal are reportedly keeping a close eye on Barcelona forward Ferran Torres, as per TEAMtalk.

Despite winning the Premier League title last term, the Gunners are planning to remain active this summer to refresh the squad and hand Mikel Arteta the necessary tools to achieve success next season.

After letting Christian Norgaard join Everton, Arsenal are on the verge of purchasing Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United to bolster the midfield.

Moreover, Arteta wants to upgrade the frontline and following Leandro Trossard’s departure, the Emirates club have already bought Christos Tzolis.

However, they want a new marquee forward and Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Junior is reportedly the priority target. But TEAMtalk claim that Arsenal are also interested in Torres as Arteta is a huge admirer of him.

They are keeping a close eye on his situation and would be ready to make a formal move if an opportunity arises. With the player’s existing deal set to expire at the end of next season, Barcelona initially wanted to keep hold of him by tying him down to a fresh term.

However, they haven’t held talks with the player’s representatives yet and the Catalan giants have now informed the player’s camp that they are prepared to cash-in on him this summer.

Torres to Arsenal

The report state that Arsenal will have to overcome fierce competition to sign Torres as Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham are also interested in him.

Luis Enrique has held talks with the player to persuade him to join and he is tempted by the prospect of playing under his compatriot. However, if Torres’ move to the French capital eventually falls through, he is ready to return to the Premier League and his preferred destination is London.

Torres, valued at around £47m by Transfermarkt, is a centre-forward by trait but is also efficient on either flank. He is quick, can link up the play and works hard without possession.

He has helped Barcelona win three La Liga titles since joining from Manchester City and helped Spain win the World Cup by scoring the winner against Argentina in the final.

The 26-year-old is currently at the prime stage of his career and could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.
