Arsenal interested in signing Matias Fernandez-Pardo
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing LOSC Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo, as per French outlet L’Equipe.
After moving to Stade Pierre Mauroy from Belgian side KAA Gent a couple of years ago, the 21-year-old initially took time to settle into his new surroundings before showing glimpses of his qualities last campaign.
In 41 appearances across all competitions, the youngster made 14 goal contributions and helped his side qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Having proven his worth in club football, Fernandez-Pardo secured his place in Belgium’s World Cup squad but remained on the periphery, playing only 53 minutes.
Now, L’Equipe state that after developing at Lille, Fernandez-Pardo is open to leaving this summer to take the next step in his career.
Arsenal are interested in signing him, but Liverpool, Chelsea and Atlético Madrid are also in this race. So, he isn’t short of potential suitors at the moment.
However, the French outlet claim that Lille president Olivier Létang has no intention of letting him leave during this offseason, with his existing deal set to run until 2029.
Fernandez-Pardo to Arsenal
The Belgian is valued at around £30m by Transfermarkt and Arsenal will have to launch a lucrative proposal to persuade Lille to cash-in on him if they make a concrete approach.
Fernandez-Pardo is a 6ft 2in tall right-footed centre-forward by trait but can provide cover on either flank if needed. He is quick, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, and is efficient in finishing off his chances.
The Lille star is a highly talented player and possesses the potential to reach the top. So, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.
Despite winning the Premier League title last term, the Gunners have been working hard to strengthen the attacking department. Following Leandro Trossard’s departure, they have already purchased Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge.
However, Arsenal want another forward at least and have been linked with several names, with Fernandez-Pardo emerging as a new target.
It is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a move to secure his services this summer.
