Arsenal offered chance to sign Sporting centre-back Zeno Debast

Arsenal have been offered the chance to sign Sporting CP centre-back Zeno Debast this summer, according to CaughtOffside.

Debast has established himself as one of the most exciting centre-backs in Europe since joining Sporting from Anderlecht in 2024.

He has made 72 appearances for the Portuguese giants, winning the 2024-25 Primeira Liga title and 2025 Portuguese Cup.

In the recently concluded campaign, the 22-year-old started the campaign in strong form but suffered incessant injuries which limited him to just 17 appearances in the league and 24 across all competitions.

He was a subject of a club vs country dispute during the World Cup, which led to him being ruled out of the quarter-final clash against Spain.

Now, according to CaughtOffside, following the long-term injury suffered by William Saliba, several players have been offered to Arsenal.

One of the names being linked to the club is Debast, according to the report, which claims that the 22-year-old has been offered to the Premier League champions as a potential centre-back option via intermediaries.

However, CaughtOffside clarifies that Arsenal are yet to initiate any formal talks for the Belgian, and it is uncertain whether the club would consider signing him in the ongoing transfer window.

Should Arsenal decide to pursue a deal for Debast, the report adds that Mikel Arteta’s side could acquire the 6ft 3in Belgian international at a meagre £34m valuation this summer.

For a player who suffered an injury-plagued season, being chosen by Rudi Garcia among Belgium’s 26-man World Cup squad shows he possesses undeniable qualities.

According to FOTMOB, Debast recorded 51 recoveries in 17 Primera Liga games at an impressive 3.9 per cent success rate. He made 48 clearances and 36 aerial duels. Overall, he won 50.0% of his contested duels in the league in the recently concluded season.

His standout qualities are mostly on the ball. He recorded a sky-high 91.2% passing success. The Belgian international was always a reliable outlet for Rui Borges during build-up due to his efficiency on the ball. He made 1,191 touches and recorded an astronomical 74.10 successful passes per game.

Despite his qualities showcasing he would be a smart addition to Mikel Arteta’s backline, his injury record from last season poses a risk in any potential deal. As such, Arsenal should focus on a more reliable, Premier League-proven option like Ezri Konsa, whom they have also reportedly been linked to.
