Arsenal open talks to sign Bournemouth’s Alex Scott
Arsenal have reportedly made contact to sign AFC Bournemouth star Alex Scott, as per Caught Offside.
Following Thomas Partey and Jorginho’s departure last summer, the Gunners decided to revamp the midfield department by purchasing Christian Norgaard and Martin Zubimendi.
The Spaniard enjoyed a bright start at the Emirates Stadium but struggled to maintain that momentum, eventually dropping out of the starting line-up during the business end of last season.
On the other hand, Norgaard failed to break into Mikel Arteta’s starting line-up, while Mikel Merino had fitness problems. So, the Spanish boss deployed Myles Lewis-Skelly alongside Declan Rice in the engine room.
It appears the North London club are considering upgrading the midfield during this offseason, and they have been linked with a few names in recent weeks.
Now, Caught Offside claim that Arsenal are ‘keen’ on purchasing Scott after being impressed by his recent development and have already made contact to learn about the details of finalising the operation.
However, Arsenal will have to overcome stiff competition to seal the deal as Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are also in this race, while the Red Devils have enquired about this deal as well.
Scott to Arsenal
With the 22-year-old’s existing deal set to run until 2028, Bournemouth don’t want to part ways with him and are considering handing him a fresh long-term contract. However, if they are forced to cash-in on him amid growing interest, they are prepared to accept around £60m.
Man Utd and Tottenham are battling to sign West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes, but have seemingly identified Scott as an alternative option.
Scott is a technically gifted box-to-box midfielder and proved his worth in the Premier League last term. He is quick, strong, and can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas.
Moreover, he has an eye for scoring goals from distance, can play threading passes between the lines, and is also efficient in defensive contributions.
Scott is a top-class player and possesses high potential. So, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually formalise their interest in signing him.
