Arsenal eyeing audacious swoop to sign Bayern star Serge Gnabry
Arsenal are plotting an ambitious swoop to re-sign Bayern Munich winger Serge Gnabry in the summer, according to Sports Boom.
Gnabry first moved to the Emirates in July 2011 from Stuttgart and quickly impressed with the youth ranks at Hale End. He debuted for the club on September 26, 2012, in the 6-1 League Cup win over Coventry City, and his first goal came a year later, when he opened the scoring in the 2-1 win over Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on September 28, 2013.
He went on to make 18 appearances for the Gunners before being loaned to West Bromwich Albion to gain more regular playing time, then to Werder Bremen, where he was signed permanently.
The 30-year-old joined Bayern in 2017 and has since enjoyed significant success with the Bavarian giants, winning six Bundesliga titles and the Champions League, among others.
He has been in prolific form in the ongoing campaign, netting 10 goals and 11 assists before his season was abruptly cut short by a significant injury that will rule him out of the World Cup.
Although he recently extended his contract with Bayern, it appears Arsenal are looking to re-sign their former prodigy next summer, as Sports Boom claims that the Gunners have placed Gnabry at the top of their attacking shortlist for next summer.
Mikel Arteta is looking to add more experience to his attack and views the Germany international as a viable option to provide competition with Bukayo Saka on the right wing, according to the report.
Prolific forward
However, amid Gnabry’s ongoing injury concerns, Sports Boom clarifies that the Premier League leaders are taking a more cautious approach and are closely monitoring his recovery and physical condition before making a formal move to sign him.
Bayern, on the other hand, want to reduce their wage bill to fund a move for Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon and are open to offers between £25m and £30m, although Arsenal are only willing to pay between £17m and £21m, the report adds.
Gnabry has been described as ‘world-class’ by Hansi Flick, who coached him at Bayern and the German national team.
There’s no surprise there, as the former Arsenal academy prodigy has been instrumental in his club’s sustained dominance.
Arteta is looking to replicate that level of dominance, and Gnabry would be a good addition to help achieve it, though concerns persist about his injury record.
