Mikel Arteta provides injury update on Kai Havertz & Eberechi Eze

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has provided an injury update on Kai Havertz and Eberechi Eze after the attacking duo were forced off with injury concerns in the 1-0 win over Newcastle United.
Following his assist on Eberechi Eze’s early strike for Arsenal, Kai Havertz suddenly went down in visible discomfort around the 20-minute mark, with initial broadcast replays failing to pinpoint the cause.
After receiving prolonged attention from the club’s medical team near the touchline, he eventually made his way off the pitch, clearly frustrated by the setback.
Meanwhile, Eze had earlier produced a brilliant finish during the opening half, but his involvement was also cut short shortly after the interval when he left the field with a knock.
The midfielder then took his place on the bench alongside his teammates and did not seem to require urgent medical attention, later returning to the pitch after the final whistle to celebrate the win with the squad.
Arteta hopeful about Havertz & Eze
When asked about the situation of both players, Arteta revealed that it’s too early to tell. He said: ‘Let’s see. At the moment they have to be looked after, but hopefully they’re going to be okay.’
Arsenal climbed back to the top of the Premier League standings with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Newcastle United at Emirates Stadium on Saturday evening.
After slipping from top spot during the week following Manchester City’s win against Burnley, the Gunners reclaimed first place by edging past Eddie Howe’s struggling side.
The decisive moment also marked Arsenal’s 17th league goal from a corner in the 2025–26 campaign, setting a new single-season record by one club in the competition. In addition, it brought up the 10th time they have taken a 1–0 lead via a corner this season — another Premier League record within a single campaign.
They now hold a three-point lead over Manchester City — who booked their place in the FA Cup Final after overcoming Southampton — although they have played one game more. The gap could stretch to six when the Gunners host Fulham at Emirates Stadium next week, while Pep Guardiola’s side is scheduled to face Everton on May 4.
Attention now turns to European competition as Arsenal travel to Spain on Wednesday for the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final clash against Atletico Madrid.
