Arsenal plot swoop to sign Newcastle’s Lewis Hall
Arsenal are reportedly planning to make a move to sign Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall, as per TEAMtalk.
The Gunners currently have Piero Hincapié, Riccardo Calafiori, and Myles Lewis-Skelly as options to deploy in the left-back position. The Ecuadorian joined on a loan deal from Bayer Leverkusen last summer, and his move is set to be made permanent this summer.
He has enjoyed a promising season, contributing three goals and keeping five clean sheets in 33 appearances across all competitions.
However, Calafiori has struggled with fitness problems since joining from Bologna a couple of years ago. On the other hand, Lewis-Skelly has been on the periphery this season; as a result, he has been linked with a move away.
So, it appears Arsenal are considering signing a new left-back this summer. TEAMtalk claim that the North London club are interested in Hall after being attracted by his recent eye-catching performances.
However, Liverpool and Manchester United are also in this race; moreover, Newcastle have no intention of letting him leave, as his existing deal runs until 2029. The player is even happy at St James’ Park and isn’t planning to push to take a new challenge in his career.
Therefore, Arsenal will have to overcome several obstacles to lure Hall, valued at around £30m by Transfermarkt, to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
Hall to Arsenal
Since moving to St James’ Park from Chelsea, the 21-year-old has established himself as a key starter, making three goal contributions and keeping four clean sheets across all competitions this season.
After being impressed by the defender, Thomas Tuchel has called him to the England national team for this month’s international fixtures.
He is technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, can play threading passes between the lines, and is also efficient in defensive contributions.
Hall is a highly talented player and possesses the potential to reach the top. So, he would be an excellent acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services during the offseason.
