Arsenal join race to sign Nottingham Forest’s Anderson
Arsenal have reportedly joined Premier League rivals to sign Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.
After letting Thomas Partey and Jorginho leave for free last summer, the Gunners decided to revamp the midfield department by signing Christian Norgaard and Martin Zubimendi.
Although the Spaniard has established himself as an integral part of Mikel Arteta’s starting line-up, Norgaard has struggled to find regular game time, failing to start a Premier League game thus far this season.
The Dane has signed a short-term contract until 2027, with Arsenal having an option to extend his deal for one more year. So, it appears Arteta has already started exploring options to sign a new midfielder to replace Norgaard.
Now, Fichajes state that Arsenal have set their sights on signing Anderson and could make a concrete approach to secure his services in the upcoming summer transfer window.
However, Manchester City and Manchester United are also in this race, with the Citizens preparing to launch a formal £102m bid to finalise the operation.
Still, the North London club are ‘confident’ of persuading him to join by defeating the Manchester clubs in this race. Nottingham Forest have no intention of letting him leave for anything less than £100m, with his existing deal set to run until 2029.
Anderson to Arsenal
Since moving to the City Ground from Newcastle United, the 23-year-old has been one of the most in-form midfielders in the Premier League.
Having proven his worth in the English top flight, Anderson has secured his place in Thomas Tuchel’s England national team’s starting line-up.
The Nottingham Forest star is a defensive midfielder by trait but is also comfortable in the box-to-box role. He is quick across the ground, can play threading passes between the lines, is efficient in taking set-pieces, and is also excellent in defensive contributions.
Anderson is a top-class player and possesses the necessary attributes to flourish at the highest level. Therefore, the Englishman would be a great coup for Arsenal should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services in the summer.
