Predicted Arsenal line-up vs Crystal Palace
Following a 1-0 victory over Everton in the Premier League last weekend, Arsenal will shift focus to the Carabao Cup, as Crystal Palace are set to travel to the Emirates Stadium for the quarter-final tie.
The Gunners have not won a major trophy since lifting the FA Cup in 2020, just six months into Mikel Arteta’s tenure. In recent years, they did not prioritise domestic cup competitions, but after adding depth to the squad last summer, they will be looking to compete strongly in every tournament this season.
Team news
Despite signing two new defenders last summer, Arsenal have found themselves thin in numbers at the back due to injury problems with Gabriel Magalhaes, Cristhian Mosquera, and Ben White out for several weeks.
Moreover, Kai Havertz has been sidelined owing to a knee injury since playing the first game of the season against Manchester United in the Premier League. Max Dowman has also sustained an injury and is set to remain sidelined over the coming weeks.
Predicted line-up
Mikel Arteta has options to make changes in other positions apart from the defence, and is expected to do that tonight to keep everyone fresh. Therefore, Kepa Arrizabalaga might get the nod to commence in the goalkeeping department ahead of David Raya.
In defence, William Saliba and Piero Hincapié should be the centre-back pairing, while Jurrien Timber might be the right-back. Riccardo Calafiori may get a breather, and Myles Lewis-Skelly could commence on the opposite side.
Christian Norgaard is likely to be in the defensive midfield position, and Mikel Merino should be alongside the Dane for the hosts. So, Martin Zubimendi and Declan Rice could get a much-needed rest in midweek before next weekend’s Premier League encounter against Brighton and Hove Albion.
Eberechi Eze is expected to be in the creative midfield position, and Martin Odegaard should feature as a substitute if needed.
Noni Madueke would be on the right flank ahead of Bukayo Saka, while Gabriel Martinelli might be on the opposite side. So, Leandro Trossard would be among the substitutes.
Gabriel Jesus is ready to start after recovering from his serious knee injury and should lead the line for Arsenal tonight. In that case, Viktor Gyokeres would feature off the bench.
Expected Arsenal line-up vs Crystal Palace
Kepa; Timber, Saliba, Hincapié, Lewis-Skelly; Norgaard, Merino, Eze; Madueke, Jesus, Martinelli
