Arsenal told Noni Madueke has been a ‘really good’ signing

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has branded Noni Madueke as a ‘really good’ signing for Arsenal.

After joining Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven a couple of years ago, the 23-year-old showcased inconsistent performances. So, questions were raised when the Gunners decided to sign the Englishman for a fee of around £52m this summer to support Bukayo Saka.

However, Madueke has had a bright start to his life at the Emirates Stadium. Amid Saka’s hamstring absence, the former Chelsea star has been starting on the right flank in recent matches.

He was excellent against Liverpool last month before displaying an even better performance vs Nottingham Forest in the Premier League last weekend. The Englishman was also bright in the opening Champions League encounter against Athletic Club in midweek.

Speaking on BBC Sport, Rooney states that, like many others, he was unsure about Arsenal’s decision to sign Madueke, but he has now changed his mind.

The former forward claims that Madueke has been ‘fantastic’ for Arsenal early in this season, and his directness is causing problems for the opposition defenders. He also shone for England during this month’s international break, so he has turned out to be a ‘really good’ buy for the Gunners.

Rooney lauds Madueke

Rooney said:

“I think he’s been fantastic. I still had my doubts on him, I’ll be honest, when he was at Chelsea. Then when they signed him, I was thinking, I’m not really too sure.

“Obviously, they have [Bukayo] Saka there as well. But I think he’s been fantastic. I think the start of the season, how direct he’s been, and he played really well for England as well. It looks like really good business for Arsenal.”

Madueke is a versatile forward as he is also comfortable on the opposite side despite being a right-winger by trait. The forward is still young and has plenty of room to develop.

The North Londoners will be hoping that Madueke will be able to help his side win the Premier League or the Champions League by continuing to showcase his best.

Meanwhile, following a 2-0 victory over Athletic Club in the Champions League in midweek, Arsenal will go head-to-head with Manchester City on Sunday before facing off against Port Vale in the Carabao Cup next week.
