Arsenal told Noni Madueke has improved massively
Manchester United legend Gary Neville has claimed that Noni Madueke has improved massively since joining Arsenal this summer.
Having progressed through the Hale End academy, Bukayo Saka has established himself as an undisputed starter for his boyhood club on the right flank. However, amid his injury problems last term, the Gunners struggled and eventually had to settle for a second-place finish in the Premier League.
So, Mikel Arteta prioritised purchasing a new right-sided forward to support Saka, and the North London club have decided to sign Madueke from Chelsea for a fee of around £52m.
After moving to Stamford Bridge from PSV Eindhoven, the Englishman displayed inconsistent performances. Therefore, questions were raised regarding the necessity of signing him by paying a big fee.
However, Saka has picked up a hamstring problem once again, and Madueke has been handed the responsibility of filling his compatriot’s void. The former Chelsea man displayed eye-catching performances against Liverpool, although his side ended up on the losing side.
On the other hand, Madueke was excellent for the England national team during this September international break, scoring against Serbia in the World Cup qualifying fixture.
Pundit lauds Madueke
Following that, it appears the narrative regarding Madueke’s move to the Emirates Stadium has started changing. Speaking on the Overlap, Neville says that he was unsure about Arsenal’s decision to sign the forward as he wasn’t impressed by his performances for Chelsea.
However, having seen him play recently, Neville states that Madueke has improved massively and is looking like a completely ‘different player’.
Neville said:
“I would ask about Madueke because, I’ll be honest with you, when he when Arsenal signed him, I’d seen him play quite a lot at Chelsea. I thought … I can see why Chelsea sort of let him go. I tell you – what a different player at Arsenal, and in the England games in the last few weeks.”
Madueke is a left-footed right winger by trait but is also comfortable on the opposite side. Arteta likes having versatile players, so he decided to sign him. The 23-year-old even started on the left against Leeds United, as Gabriel Martinelli has been displaying underwhelming performances recently.
Saka is expected to remain sidelined for Arsenal’s next game versus Nottingham Forest, and Madueke will have to step up in this game as well if he eventually starts.
