Arsenal urged to sign Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo
Former scout Mike Brown has urged Arsenal to sign Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo to reinforce the frontline.
The Cameroonian has established himself as the talismanic figure for the Bees this season since the departure of Ivan Toney last summer. In 29 Premier League appearances, the 25-year-old has scored 15 goals and registered five assists thus far this season.
The forward scored against the Gunners, moreover, he has netted against Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. So, he can step up in big games.
However, Mbeumo’s future continues to hang in the air as he will enter the final year of his current contract at the end of this season.
Now, speaking on Football Insider, Brown says that Arsenal will be looking to strengthen the squad this summer to take the next step in their rebuild under Arteta.
Mbeumo is an excellent player and has various attributes that would be perfect for the North London club. Therefore, Arsenal should secure his service ahead of next season.
Mbeumo to Arsenal
He said:
“Arsenal want to be maintaining their strength, and improving on it. Bryan Mbeumo; if he was an Arsenal player now, he’d be an asset to them, because he can do what he can do, he scores goals and he runs the flanks for them.
“He’s not like a Stanley Matthews type who beats people, he’s not that type of winger, he’s more forceful and penetrative – that might be the way that Arsenal have to go, so that one wouldn’t surprise me.”
Mbeumo is valued at around £42m by Transfermarkt and it remains to be seen how much money the Bees demand to let their star man leave.
The African is a right winger and Bukayo Saka has been the undisputed starter for the Gunners in this position over the years. But, amid his injury absence in recent months, Ethan Nwaneri has been deputising and has showcased glimpses of his qualities.
Therefore, Arsenal aren’t in desperate need to hire a new right winger. However, if a player of Mbeumo’s quality becomes available this summer, turning down the opportunity to hire him wouldn’t be a wise decision.
It is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to lure him to the Emirates Stadium in the upcoming transfer window to strengthen the attacking department.
