Arsenal to step up efforts to sign Bruno Guimaraes

Arsenal are reportedly planning to step up their efforts to sign Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes this summer, as per the transfer insider Dean Jones.
After joining the Magpies from Olympique Lyonnais a few years ago, the Brazilian has established himself as a fan favourite over the last few years.
In his debut season at St James’ Park, the 26-year-old helped his side survive the relegation before guiding Eddie Howe’s side to secure the Champions League qualification in the following campaign.
Although Newcastle haven’t had the best campaign this term, Guimaraes has displayed eye-catching performances throughout the season.
So, it seems after being impressed by the South American’s recent consistent performances, the Gunners have expressed their intentions of signing him in the upcoming window.
Guimaraes to Arsenal
Speaking on Ranks FC Ultras Podcast, Jones has reported that the Newcastle star is ‘admired’ at Arsenal and the North London club are set to make an effort to purchase him this summer. However, the journalist claims that Arsenal are unlikely to be able to sign Guimaraes due to his huge £100m release clause.
Jones said:
“One to watch out for, and I don’t think it will happen because of his release clause. Bruno Guimaraes is admired at Arsenal and they would like to give that a go, but at £100m, they definitely have the admiration.”
It has been suggested that Newcastle’s summer budget has been restricted due to FFP regulations so they need to sell one of their star men to raise funds in order to sign a few new players in the off-season.
Alexander Isak and Guimaraes are said to be the two most valuable assets of Howe’s side so they could be open to cashing-in on one of them this summer.
The former Lyon star is a Premier League proven star and possesses the necessary qualities to play in Mikel Arteta’s possession-based system. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they purchase him.
However, having splashed more than £100m to sign Declan Rice last summer, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club opt to spend similar money once again this summer to sign Guimaraes.
