Arsenal register interest in signing Wolves star Joao Gomes
Arsenal have reportedly registered their interest in signing Wolverhampton Wanderers star Joao Gomes this summer, as per the Brazilian out O Dia.
It has widely been suggested that the Gunners want to purchase a new midfielder as a potential replacement for Thomas Partey – who has struggled with injury problems over the last few years.
It initially looked like the North London club would sign a like-for-like replacement for the Ghanaian as they have been linked with several holding midfielders such as Martin Zubimendi, Douglas Luiz and Amadou Onana.
However, Arsenal could look to sign a new number eight and deploy Declan Rice in the deep-lying playmaker position as he flourished in his career in that role before joining Arsenal last summer.
Now, while citing and translating the print version of O Dia, Sport Witness has reported that Arsenal are keen on signing Gomes and are preparing to submit a formal proposal to Wolves.
Gomes to Arsenal
The report further claims that Manchester United are also interested in signing him, but it appears Arsenal are more keen on acquiring his service and have already started working on this deal.
It has previously been reported that Wolves value the midfielder at around £40m but they could increase the asking price as he has now established himself as a key player in Gary O’Neil’s starting eleven in recent times.
The Brazilian is quick, technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines, has the efficiency of dribbling past opposition defenders in tight areas and also works hard in defensive contributions.
The South American is a talented player and could be a shrewd signing for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future if they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to acquire his service in the upcoming window.
Meanwhile, following Arsenal’s impressive victory over Brighton and Hove Albion and Liverpool’s draw against Manchester United, they have now found themselves at the top of the table. So, the Premier League’s title fate is now on their hands and Mikel Arteta’s side will be keen on lifting the league title this term by winning the remaining games.
