Arsenal could look to sign Brentford star Toney in January
Arsenal could reportedly make an attempt to sign Brentford star Ivan Toney in the upcoming transfer window, as per the transfer journalist Paul Brown.
The Gunners have seemingly been planning to strengthen their frontline by purchasing a new centre-forward as they have recently been linked with a few strikers. Dusan Vlahovic and Santiago Gimenez have been mentioned as potential targets, but Toney is reportedly their primary option.
It has been suggested that Brentford are ready to sell their star man in January if they receive an offer of around £60m and the striker is open to leaving the Gtech Community Stadium to take the next step in his career.
Now, speaking to GiveMeSport, Brown has reported that Arsenal are indeed looking to sign a new striker in January and they are interested in Toney.
The journalist further claims that the North London club could opt to formalise their interest and submit a formal proposal to sign the striker next year. So, the Englishman could become Arsenal’s new centre-forward in January.
Toney to Arsenal
Brown said:
“It wouldn’t surprise me if they look for another striker in January. Toney is someone who’s going to interest quite a lot of clubs when he’s back and available again. I think he’s a player on Arsenal’s radar, and you might see them bid for him. So, I think he’s a watch this space on that one.”
Toney showcased his goal-scoring prowess for Brentford last season before being suspended for eight months after being found guilty of betting issues.
His ban will be lifted in January next year so signing him in the winter window to reinforce the attack could be a shrewd decision if Arsenal opt to do that.
However, it has been suggested that having spent over £200m in the summer window, Arsenal can’t afford to splash the cash once again in January unless they raise funds by making a big sale.
So, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club can eventually manage to purchase Toney to reinforce their frontline if they formalise their interest in the upcoming transfer window.
