Arsenal star Lokonga attracting interest from Brighton

Arsenal star Albert Sambi Lokonga has been attracting interest from Brighton and Hove Albion in recent times, as per 90min.

The Gunners have done the majority of their transfer business early in this window and are now focusing on selling players to trim down the squad.

Folarin Balogun, Nicolas Pepe, Kieran Tierney and Nuno Tavares have all been transfer-listed by Mikel Arteta, while the North London club have already sold Granit Xhaka to Bayer Leverkusen and Matt Turner to Nottingham Forest.

Lokonga – valued at around £13m by Transfermarkt – is also surplus to requirements at the Emirates Stadium so he is expected to leave the club over the coming days. It was previously reported that Burnley were looking to sign the Belgian to bolster their engine room but they never formalised their interest.

Now, according to the report by 90min, Brighton are looking to strengthen their midfield department after selling Moises Caicedo and have identified Lokonga as a potential option along with Carlos Baleba.

Lokonga to leave Arsenal

The report further claims that the Seagulls are looking to sign Lokonga on a loan deal to add depth to their squad due to their Europa League commitment this season.

Arsenal would ideally be looking to sell the Belgian on a permanent deal to generate some money to raise funds as they are planning to sign a new defender following Jurrien Timber’s potentially season-ending injury.

But it seems letting him leave on loan is the most realistic possibility at the moment and it is going to be interesting to see whether Brighton eventually opt to sign him in this transfer window.

Meanwhile, after defeating Nottingham Forest in the opening fixture in the Premier League, the Gunners managed to come away with all three points against Crystal Palace last night despite playing with 10 men for a large part of the second half.

So, following a promising start to this season, Arsenal will be full of confidence ahead of next weekend’s fixture versus Fulham. They will be desperate to beat the West London club before facing off against Manchester United ahead of the international break.
