Arsenal pushing to sign Man City star Ilkay Gundogan
Arsenal are reportedly pushing hard to sign Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan this summer, as per the transfer expert David Ornstein.
After moving to the Etihad Stadium back in 2016 from Borussia Dortmund, the 32-year-old has enjoyed great success with the Citizens over the last few years, helping his side in winning five Premier League titles and as many domestic cup triumphs.
However, Gundogan has entered the final few months of his current contract and hasn’t signed a new deal with Man City yet. So, speculation surrounding his future continues to grow ahead of the summer window and it appears Arsenal are looking to take advantage of this situation.
Writing in The Athletic, Ornstein has reported that Arsenal have identified Gundogan as a serious target to replace Granit Xhaka if he were to leave at the end of this season. The Swiss has heavily been linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium ahead of the summer window.
Gundogan to Arsenal
The journalist further claims that the Gunners have already intensified their efforts to sign the German international and are looking to acquire his services, along with purchasing Declan Rice and Mason Mount this summer.
However, Ornstein says that signing the midfielder won’t be easy for Arsenal as Man City want to keep hold of their star man beyond this season so they will make an attempt to persuade him to sign an extension.
It has been suggested that Arsenal are set to remain busy in the upcoming transfer window to strengthen their squad for next season and bolstering the engine room is Mikel Arteta’s number-one priority.
Gundogan – valued at around £22m by Transfermarkt – has already showcased his talent playing at the highest level over the last few years. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they manage to secure his signature at the end of this season.
If Arsenal manage to sign Rice, Mount and Gundogan this summer then that will be a successful transfer window for Arteta’s side – which would definitely help the Gunners in challenging on all fronts next season.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal manage to secure Gundogan’s signature this summer if Man City fail to persuade him to sign a renewal.
