Arsenal in ‘pole position’ to sign Declan Rice this summer

Arsenal reportedly remain favourites to sign West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice this summer, as per the transfer journalist Rudy Galetti.
It has widely been suggested that the Gunners are keen on strengthening their engine room this summer. They have been linked with a host of options over the last few months but the England international has continuously been mentioned as Mikel Arteta’s primary target.
However, West Ham have made it clear several times that they are not going to let their star man leave for cheap and want more than £100m.
It has previously been reported that Arsenal don’t want to match West Ham’s asking price so doubt started to emerge as to whether the Gunners will make a swoop for the 24-year-old.
However, speaking to GiveMeSport, Galetti has said that Arsenal remain keen on signing Rice this summer and are currently in ‘pole position’ to purchase the West Ham star.
Rice to Arsenal
The journalist further claims that the North London club have held talks with Rice’s representatives several times and Arteta has also ‘spoken directly’ with the midfielder. But, the Gunners haven’t opened any talks with the Hammers yet.
Galetti said:
“Arsenal still remain in pole position for Declan Rice. They’ve had numerous contacts with the player. Even Arteta has spoken directly with him. It’s put the Gunners in a privileged position.
“However, they have not yet explored the economic aspect, either with the player or West Ham, who, until the end of the season, have no intention to be involved in advanced talks with any club.”
Having qualified for the Champions League, Arsenal need to strengthen their squad to challenge on all fronts next season and adding reinforcements to the middle of the park would be an excellent decision.
Rice is a Premier League proven midfielder so he would certainly be a great coup for Arsenal if they manage to get a deal done this summer. However, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal decide to spend the reported £100m fee to sign Rice or manage to persuade West Ham in lowering their valuation if they end up signing the 24-year-old at the end of this season.
